Danitrio Tamonten Maki-e Hand Painted Grand Trio Fountain Pen

In Japanese tradition there is a story of The Four Devas.  These were warriors that lived on the four sides of Mt. Shamisen, a legendary holy mountain.  They each played a role in guarding the world.

Tamonten, lived in the north side of Mt. Shamisen, protecting the north side of the world and treasures. His followers were Yasha and Rasetsu, who were originally devils before they became believers in Buddhism. The statue is armored with a pike in his right hand and a stupa in his left hand. In Japan he became one of the Seven Deities and was widely worshipped by Samurai.

 About the artist

Kenji Yamamoto. Signature: Kenji. Title: Member of Gendai Kogei Bijutsu Kyokai. (Modern Craft Art Association) Born in 1964.

He started painting when he was only 7, and he began to work on oil paintings a few years later. His oil paintings switched to Maki-e by following his parents’ advice at age 15. He is the only one among our Maki-e artists that works on pieces for the direction of “art for art’s sake” and his Maki-e works have been accepted by Nitten each year since 1995 and his achievement to be a member of Gendai Kogei Bijutsu Kyokai, a major organization of artists in Japan was a great one at his age of only 38, five years ago.

Danitrio makes remarkable hand painted pens using the Japanese skill and craftsmanship. The amount of detail in the paintings on the pen is remarkable. The little details may easily be overlooked. One thing to consider is how the artist uses difference sizes of gold flake to create the desired effect. This pen takes many months to finish.

The pen fills via cartridge convertor and features an 18kt gold nib.
