The Namiki Chinkin Collection showcases one of Japan’s most distinctive lacquer techniques. With Chinkin, the design is carved directly into the lacquered surface using specialized chisels. Lacquer is then worked into the carved areas before gold powder and gold leaf are applied, allowing the design to emerge from within the surface itself.
Bamboo and Sparrow brings together two classic subjects of Japanese art, with sparrows appearing among tall bamboo across the black lacquer surface. Fine lines and carefully carved dots define the bamboo, leaves and feathers, while the gold inlay brings contrast and dimension to the composition. The work is created by Namiki artisan Yasuji Sumi.
The pen is fitted with a No. 10 18k gold nib and is available in Fine, Medium and Broad. It uses a cartridge/converter filling system.
