Chateau Shinogi Guntō takes its name from Japanese swords. “Shinogi” refers to the defining ridge line on a blade. Displayed here in the pen’s faceted profile. “Guntō” references Japanese military swords, traditionally finished with tassels, which inspired the tassel details.
The Shinogi Gunto is a Chateau prototype, crafted by Newton Pens to the highest standards. Each pen is individually made with meticulous attention to detail, fit, and finish.
These pen highlight Shawn Newton’s craftsmanship and the exceptional German ebonite—premium hard rubber (vulcanite) produced by Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur GmbH (SEM) in Germany. Prized for its durability, depth of color, and ability to take a remarkable polish, SEM ebonite offers a warm, comfortable feel in hand and—when properly cared for—can last a lifetime. Ebonite is created through the vulcanization of natural rubber, producing a dense, non-conductive material with a rich, lacquer-like gloss. Compared to acrylic, it’s known for a more organic “optic and haptic” (We have pens in ebonite 100 years old that look new still)
The pens are fit with German-made 18k two-tone nibs engraved with the Chateau logo, then tuned in-house. An ebonite feed and casing are made in the United States for consistent flow and a refined writing experience.
Trim details are executed to the same standard: removable top-cap rings are hand-made in Arkansas from custom titanium rings and heat-treated for color. The middle ring is hand-carved and knurled from matching ebonite, with additional rings finished in polished black ebonite. Tassels are hand-crafted in the U.S., made in Pennsylvania.
Filling system: cartridge/converter or eyedropper.
