This Montblanc 149 has been fully transformed by Tokyo-based artist Takahashi, whose urushi and maki-e work is typically not seen out of private collections. The pen’s deep black surface is layered with traditional urushi lacquer, then finished with scattered gold dust and raden (abalone shell) inlays that shimmer like distant stars.
The result is a true galaxy effect—gold flecks appear suspended across the barrel and cap, while the raden reflects shifting tones of green, purple, and blue. The lacquer is smooth and polished, with no interruption to the classic lines of the 149. The snowcap finial and 18k gold nib remain untouched, preserving the Montblanc identity beneath the craftsmanship.
