Parthenope – The Art of a Legend
Parthenope, designed by Nino Marino Signature, is born, an extraordinary work that celebrates Nino Marino’s 50th anniversary
In the world of high-quality artisanal writing instruments; half a century dedicated with passion to the mastery and beauty of the act of writing.
This anniversary pays tribute to his tireless creativity, his ingenuity, and a vision capable of capturing the expectations of fountain pen enthusiasts, a vision that has helped make the Delta brand known and appreciated worldwide. Parthenope Maki-e celebrates the legend of the siren of Naples—a symbol of beauty, mystery, and harmony—through the refined Japanese technique of Maki-e lacquering.
Each pen is hand-decorated by master craftsmen who trace the image of Parthenope onto the ebonite body, embellishing it with gold and silver powders that capture her light and immortal grace.
The body of the pen is crafted from natural ebonite, a noble material warm to the touch, featuring a refined representation of Parthenope, the siren who founded Naples. Hand-painted in Japan by master craftsmen using the ancient art of maki-e, gold and silver powders blend with urushi lacquer to create a unique work, vibrant with light and myth.
Completing this creation are precious details in rare pearly Mediterranean blue celluloid, a tribute to the sea that bathes the city and the elegance of Italian tradition.
Every detail speaks of the encounter between East and West, between legend and craftsmanship, between ink and the sea.
A work for true connoisseurs: Parthenope Maki-e is not just a writing instrument, but a tribute to the beauty born from the encounter of two cultures, two seas, and a timeless art.
Technical Details
The “maki-e” technique is an ancient and refined Japanese lacquer decoration technique, used to adorn fine objects and other urushi lacquer beauties.
The term “maki-e” literally means “scattered images” or “sprayed images,” and refers to metallic powder (usually gold or silver) that is “scattered” or applied over a design traced with wet lacquer.
How it works:
Design: A design is traced onto the object with wet urushi lacquer.
Powder application: While the lacquer is still tacky, gold, silver, or other metal powder is delicately applied using a very thin brush or a special tool (makizutsu).
Finish: Once dry, the surface is carefully sanded and polished to bring out the brilliant design.
Body: Hand-turned ebonite
Accents: Sea blue celluloid
Decoration: Japanese Maki-e technique with gold and silver dust
