The Origami Crane

This set includes a wood carved origami crane which originates from a Japanese tradition called “the folding of one thousand cranes”. The tradition comes from the saying “cranes live a thousand years” as cranes are seen as mystical or holy creatures in Japanese folklore, and origami cranes were offered at shrines. In the modern day Origami cranes are often given to people who are ill or for wishing someone good blessings. They are seen as wishes for good health and peace and are even given to sports teams to wish a good game.

The historically popular Momiji Manju (sweets iconic of Miyajima, Hiroshima), shaped like a maple leaf, derives its name from the maple tree as well.
