Every aspect of this writing instrument expresses symbolically, a link with the art work housed in the Vatican Museums and the history of the Church of Rome. The gold plated decoration which slightly embraces the shank of the pen, belongs to the Vatican Museums and it is inspired by the majolica designs realized by Luca della Robbia for the ancient floor of the Vatican. The Vatican emblem resides on the cap of both pens.
The phrase “Causarum cognitio” is inscribed on the small plate of the body of the pen. “Causarum cognitio” is a Latin phrase that translates to “knowledge of causes” or “the seeking of causes”. It’s often used in the context of philosophy, particularly in relation to the concept of Aristotelian wisdom, which emphasizes understanding the underlying reasons or principles behind events or phenomena. The phrase is depicted in Raphael’s “The School of Athens” painting, located above the fresco.
