For this new Art Collection edition, Pelikan looks back to 1899 and draws from Georg Tippel’s Grundfarben poster, created for Pelikan’s first poster competition. It is a strong piece of the brand’s early visual history, and Pelikan has turned that history into a pen in a way that feels thoughtful rather than overdone.

The most interesting part of the design comes from the original poster itself. Pelikan took the flowing cloud formations from Tippel’s artwork and reworked them into the pattern on the barrel. It gives the pen movement, depth, and a real connection to the source material without simply reproducing the poster on the pen.

The barrel is finished through a detailed process with finely engraved guilloché beneath multiple layers of lacquer, giving the surface a rich shine and a lot of life in the light. Warm brown semi-transparent resin is used for the cap, section, and piston knob, while the trim is finished in 24k gold plate. The overall look is classic, warm, and a little different from the usual Pelikan releases in the best way.
The pen is fitted with Pelikan’s piston filling system and a two-tone 14k gold nib, so the writing experience is every bit as strong as the presentation. It is also presented in a book-style package with a miniature reproduction of Tippel’s historic poster, which is a nice touch and fits the theme well.
