Schon DSGN Engineered Plastics “Full Sized” Black Ultem with Monoc Titanium Nib Fountain Pen

This pen is lovingly used and does not come with a box or papers. It is equipped with a Polished Titanium Fine nib and fills via a Piston Filling system.

From Schon DSGN:

The first full sized fountain pen from Schon DSGN! I say full sized since it fits not just cartridges but a converter as well. I personally love small pens so this was a design exercise out of my comfort zone. This pen uses a Schmidt K5 converter and houses a Jowo #6 nib (or some other options below!). Even though it fits a converter, it was also designed to be a compact pen fitting with my style.

What is Ultem?

The material Ultem, aka PEI (Polyetherimide), is able to be machined thinner than most acrylic and yet will be stronger than acrylic to resist damage from accidental drops or other mishaps. I love Ultem as I started my career before pens making scientific instruments out of this material. Plus it has the cool yellow/amber color in its natural form. Peek is another very cool engineered plastic, so I made this design in Peek as well.

The Monoc Titanium Nib

The Monoc Nib is an integrated titanium nib unit designed and manufactured in house by Schon DSGN. It is machined from solid titanium bar stock and utilizes a feed machined from amber Ultem, which darkens and takes on the color of the ink when in use. Its novel design and construction leads to a unique writing experience; the Monoc has a feel all its own and offers a dynamic array of line characteristics with multiple tip shapes to choose from

We currently have three tip shapes available for the Monoc nib: Fine, Medium, and Cursive. The Fine tip has a fine line that gets finer with higher angle writing, and a large reverse with an expressive architect-like characteristic. The Medium has a wider line weight with a finer line on the reverse. The cursive has a finer horizontal stroke, wider vertical stroke, and a very large and wet reverse.
