Sailor King of Pens Naginata Togi UMESAKI Limited Edition Ebonite Fountain Pen
Naginata Togi Ebonite Ebonite series 7th Edition.
The once-a-year release of Sailor Pen’s coveted ebonite series is here, crafted employing the colored ebonite “Chirashi (scattering)” technique and the 21K gold Naginata Togi nib, following the past releases of KAIHA, KOUEN, RYOKKYO, SEKKEI, SYOKEI and MOUKO will now be joined by a 7th edition.
This year we add UMESAKI to our growing collection of ebonite fountain pens equipped with our 21K gold KOP Naginata Togi nib.
The color of UMESAKI is inspired by Hiroshige Utagawa’s masterpiece “Plum Estate in Kameido (Kameido Umeyashiki)” published in the “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo” series of Ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
Hiroshige created this piece in his last year of life and during the Edo period, it traveled overseas and was reproduced by Vincent van Gogh in 1887 in a work titled “Flowering Plum Tree”, testament to how Hiroshige’s art was deeply admired not only in Japan but across the world.
Ingenious use of perspective gave this piece spatial depth, creating a rich visual experience. Sailor Pen’s UMESAKI brings to life, the inspiration of “Plum Estate in Kameido” with a pink base and the use of white Chirashi material to represent plum blossoms, as well as gray and black to represent the tree trunk and branches.
