In contrast to the deep design of the Emperor Collection, graceful motifs are drawn on the Yukari Royale Collection. The name comes from the Japanese word “Yukari”, meaning the connection and relationships between people. Please enjoy the expression overflowing with grace that comes with Togidashi-Taka Maki-e (Burnished-Raised Maki-e).
The Namiki Yukari Royale Catfish and Gourd (Hyoutan Namazu) fountain pen has been produced in just 200 numbered pieces worldwide. Noted Maki-e artist Seiki has utilized a variety of techniques, including burnished and raised Togidashi-Taki and high relief Taka Maki-e, to realize the motif. Precious materials used include both gold and platinum dust.
The theme of Catfish and Gourd is inspired by an ancient Zen koan which asks the question, “how does one catch a catfish with a gourd?” Interpretations, both literary and pictorial, have tended to emphasize the elusive, slippery nature of the catfish and the near impossibility of capturing it with a gourd by conventional or rational means.
Namiki Maki-e fountain pens encompass the ultimate fusion of skill and spirit inherited from their predecessors, and also the roots of PILOT. Over many years to the present day, they are one of the top brands in Maki-e fountain pens conveying Japanese traditional culture.
Lacquering, drawing, sprinkling and polishing. In order to bring out a beautiful, fine Maki-e, these 4 processes are repeated many times over. More than 3 months are required until completion, with some Maki-e fountain pens being completed after going through the process as much as 130 times.
